1. What were your initial thoughts when you opened the parcel?
I nearly gave up - then I got the parcel I thought ‘flippin ‘eck I was going to give up!’ When I opened it and I saw a printed A4 sheet with drawings of eyes and brains, very computerised I changed my mind instantly about what I was going to do. I went straight to my comfort zone which is music, however I applied my music in a completely different way.
2. What was the main source of inspiration from the piece that you received?
The eyes and the brain on the A4 sheet that Neil had provided for me. I started to sing a song straight away using phrases that came to mind. Then I realised that there wasn’t just an A4 sheet but a 32 second animation that my music fitted perfectly.
3. Describe your piece?
My piece is music that I describe as electro-organic. That is when I base the whole music on organic percussion instrument, most of them originated from Brazil and Africa, plus mainly household utensils, like a brush, cup and machinery.
4. In business terms, what have you learned or gained from the project?
I learned that it’s very easy to give up and I think the project has opened my eyes to do things I always hesitate to do, such as using pre-recorded electronic music. Don’t give up!
